French Program

Madame Pelletier

Bienvenue! I am filled with enthusiasm for the upcoming year and study of French at Visitation Academy, which continues the tradition of the order of the Visitation and its origins in Annecy, France.  The study of French provides students with the opportunity to develop insights in the feature, processes, and craft of language and the concept of culture, and to realize that there are many ways of living, acting and viewing the world.  Learning another language greatly contributes to the holistic development of students and strengthens lifelong learning.  It is valued in the development of critical thinking skills and the cultivation of intercultural understanding.

the curriculum was designed using the proficiency guidelines set forth by the ACTFL (American Council on the Teaching of Foreign Languages). Work is focused on regular practice in each of the four areas of language acquisition: speaking, listening, reading, and writing.  Students will also study aspects of French culture, including music, cuisine, and art. 7th grade us the equivalent of French 1A and 8th grade is the equivalent of French 1B.
